Sheila Moon - women's cycling apparel
Sheila began sewing at the age of five for some of the best-outfitted dolls in her Portland, Oregon neighborhood. While in college at the University of Oregon, Sheila visited San Francisco. Like so many other true San Franciscans, she was instantly smitten and has called it home ever since.
Once there, Sheila availed herself to the rich cultural and outdoor landscape. She took numerous art classes at San Francisco City College, and graduated from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. She worked as a designer and patternmaker for many years, while also evolving into a champion cyclo-cross (an extreme version of cycling) rider. "I have a little bit of a wild streak," she admits slyly.That wild streak may be a part of her design process, but the structure and finish is not a matter of chance. "I focus on fit, fabric, and construction," says Sheila. Hem facings, meticulous tailoring, and clean finishes are standard in her work. In addition, she uses interesting buttons and trims. "My pieces are luxurious because of the fabrics and attention to detail, but they are wearable because there is an emphasis on fit."
"I like to think of my clothes as something a modern Grace Kelly or even Marilyn Monroe would wear -- classic and sexy," says Sheila.
"Ultimately, I design for women like myself, women with curves and attitude" says Sheila. "My clothes fit active women on the move."
