Renata says: I decided to use the Piston 200 Tri Pocket Shorts for my sprint triathlon last year. The compressive fabric and the lack of leg grippers made these shorts look and feel really good.

I had no chafing in any of the events, and the pad dried quickly and it felt comfortable. My legs felt so strong and fresh on the bike and on the run because of the awesome compressive fabric! The longer length of the short kept my muscles perfectly covered so they did not vibrate or jiggle, and all of my energy was channeled into pumping my legs into 3rd place!

(FIT NOTE: The waistband was a little bit snug for me. I think these would fit someone with a small waist really well!)

  • Sugoi's Piston 200 compression fabric for optimal muscle performance
  • a run-friendly, low-profile, anatomically designed TriLite 2 chamois pad
  • 2 Vector Stretch mesh hardware pockets on hip suitable for personal electronics or energy pack
  • inside key/card pocket at waist
  • crotch gusset to reduce inseam bulk
  • waistband with stretch drawstring and moisture wicking signature elastic
  • no leg grippers (fabric is doubled over at hem)
  • reflective accents for low light visibility

Comfortable fit

(Avid Cyclist) March 5, 2013

The description doesn't lie; these are compression shorts and thus a bit tighter than other shorts I have. However, they fit like compression shorts are supposed to fit. The seams are smooth, the pad is nice, and the length is perfect. Not too short, and long enough to cover the upper leg and support the entire quads and hamstrings. I have not had nice enough weather here in Illinois to wear them outside yet, but plan to soon.

Pros
  • Durable
  • Good Padding
  • Dries Quickly
  • Good Fit
  • Breathable
  • Good Pockets
Cons
Uses
  • Warm Weather
  • Long Rides
  • Road Biking
  • Waist: Feels true to size

Nice shorts

(Competitive Cyclist) December 3, 2012

A little longer than I like. But I like to look and feel and padding is good for sprint or Olympic tris... I wouldn't use them on long rides though not quite enough padding.

  • Dries Quickly
  • Good Padding
  • Comfortable
  • Good Pockets
Cons
  • Chafes
Uses
  • Road Biking

Don't judge a book by its cover

(Avid Cyclist) August 21, 2012

I typically take a medium in most shorts/pants and so I ordered a large due to information provided on product and they were still a bit snug around the waist for my liking.

  • Comfortable
Cons
  • Poor Fit

Tri Shorts

(Avid Cyclist) August 20, 2012

I purchased last year's model and was hoping the problem was corrected. I purchased a 2012 model since I love the fit. After wearing ONCE, the reflective accents peeled off. Takes away from appearance/apparent quality. They are 9" inseam and I love the fit...too bad they look terrible after one use. I expected more for the price.

  • Good Fit
  • Breathable

  • Long inseam
Cons

not quite right

(Competitive Cyclist) August 5, 2012

The pad would be nice if it was sewn down completely around the outside edge of the pad. Unfortunately, the raw edge is abrasive and my first use was a nightmare. Can't return after wearing so likely won't buy Sugoi in the future.

Pros
  • Breathable
  • Dries Quickly
Cons

Great tri shorts!

(Avid Cyclist) July 25, 2011

Used these shorts for my second 1/2 ironman distance tri. Great compression, three useful pockets and they don't ride up. Some threads from a few of the the seams started to pull out after the first wash, but the seams are heavily stitched so it did not compromise the integrity of the shorts. Overall, I'm very pleased.

Service comments: Great speedy service! This was my first order from Team Estrogen and I will definitely rely on them again for my running/biking/swimming needs.

Comfortable Legs, Supportive, Runs Small

(Avid Cyclist) May 6, 2011

First off, the shorts looked very small and skinny right out of the package (I have a 25 waist, 34 hip with big thighs, so I figured an XS would work best since I'm also still losing an inch or two/flab). It took me a minute to get the shorts on since the waist didn't stretch out as much as I thought it would. When they said these were compression shorts...these are REALLY compression shorts and I don't see them moving/falling off anytime soon. The fit was definitely snug around the hips but pretty comfortable around the thighs (and usually I have issues with things too big in hips and too small in thighs). If you're not comfortable with shorts that feel just a little snug on top (I had a teeny muffin top at first), go up a size.

I tried them during my triathlon club where I got to experiment running with them as well as cycling. The shorts actually performed pretty well when running...even though there are no leg grippers, the legs stayed put really well. And I have big thighs and was surprised that as compressive as these shorts are, they laid comfortably and didn't squeeze and create sausage thighs...they were very flattering in fact. Also, I didn't notice the pad in the back at all! Despite how wide it may seem, it's super comfy and I prefer the spongy material over fleece.

I then tried it while cycling, and since the hips were a little tight I had some stomach flab stick over, but other than that they were pretty comfy to ride in...I actually cycled at a lot higher RPM and gear than usual today. Legs still stayed down well. Also, there are strings inside the waist to adjust tightness just incase you decide to go up a size and the waist just isn't snug enough...I didn't feel the need to use them.

I didn't take it in the pool since I'm wary of bringing anything but my one-piece swimsuit into chlorine, but I have a feeling the shorts will keep in place. They dried pretty fast after being sweaty for over an hour. One word of caution...don't try and get these shorts on AFTER your legs are wet, the compression makes it tough!

I'm not exchanging for a larger size because I think it's just about the right fit and at the end of the day it felt more comfortable than the first few minutes I had on. Gives me motivation to lose that 1 extra inch of flab around my tummy/hips.

Pros
  • Dries Quickly
  • No Grippers
  • Good Pockets
  • Durable
Cons
  • Tight waist
Uses
  • Road Biking

Good length, good grippers, runs small

April 23, 2011

I like that these aren't the short-shorts that are so common in triathlon wear. I also love the grippers (or lack of being too grippy) at the cuffs (no sausage legs). The padding is very minimal, so be comfortable with that. And these run small; I exchanged for a size up.

Pros
  • Dries Quickly
Cons
Uses
  • Triathlons
  • Waist: Feels too small

Perfect amount of compression!

(Avid Cyclist) April 7, 2011

I am a petite pear-shaped women and no matter how fit I am, most bike shorts cause my thighs to look like sausage links. What works best for me is compression, longer inseam (although longer inseams on shorts make me look shorter but it is the price I have to pay for no sausage-links), and NO LEG GRIPPERS! These shorts fit the bill: perfect amount of compression (the fabric feels thicker than the Piston 200 tights), no sausage-link inducing leg gripper. I was also surprised at the amount of padding which was virtually invisible while on - - comfortable even on long indoor rides where I tend to "sit harder" on the saddle. Love 'em.

Service comments: Very prompt delivery! Thank you USPS - - these came two days early which was wonderful.
