Thoroughbred Legs

(Competitive Cyclist) July 8, 2015

It's forecast to be in the 80's with lots of sun. You rode 104 miles yesterday and are planning an easy 75 miles or so today. Put on your sugar shorts and fly! Their shorter length doesn't provide the compression of a longer short, but what the heck - it just feels good to grab some rays and enjoy a glance every so often at the trim quads you work so hard to build. Go for it, girl!

Pros
  • Breathable
  • Comfortable
  • Dries Quickly
  • Good Fit
Cons
  • Chafes
  • Not Enough Padding
Uses
  • Road Biking
  • Warm Weather
  • Waist: Feels true to size

You Get What You Pay For

(Avid Cyclist) January 21, 2015

These are pretty okay. I'm usually a size 8, I have a medium, they fit fine. I am not a fan of how short the inseam is as I find my thighs rubbing on the edge of my saddle. I much prefer a 6.5"-8" inseam on a short. The padding on these is pretty bulky. It's comfortable enough, it's just really inefficient.

I wear these when I commute, but for anything beyond about 30 miles, the chamois starts to get uncomfortable and it's sweat city. These are probably fine if you're doing light riding or indoor cycling, but if you're serious about doing longer rides, I'd keep looking. Overall, these are pretty okay for the price, but I'd spring for something better. . . I reccommend the Terry Bella short if you're lookig for something a step up.

Pros
  • Comfortable
  • Durable
  • Inexpensive
Cons
  • Too Much Padding
  • Too short
Uses
  • Commuting
  • Warm Weather
  • Waist: Feels true to size
  • Length: Feels too short

Seems to run large

(Avid Cyclist) August 31, 2013

I had a 4-year-old pair of Pearl Izumi Sugar shorts, size large, and they fit well so I ordered large this time. The shorts are a big baggy but fortunately the wrinkled fabric doesn't chafe. The waist band is lower than natural waist and sort of cups the abdomen, making me think these shorts might be good for pregnant ladies.

Pros
  • Good Padding
  • Comfortable
Cons
  • Poor Fit
Uses
  • Commuting
  • Warm Weather
  • Waist: Feels too big
  • Length: Feels true to length
