Anna says: These bibs are amazing! They are the first pair of bibs that I 've tried; I had only worn shorts before . The bibs have sold me on the idea! I've vowed to only buy bib shorts from here on out because they offer me a comfort that I can't achieve with shorts that have waistbands. Going to the bathroom isn't a big production because Hincapie put a clasp on the back. All I have to do to use the restroom is reach up under my jersey and unclasp the strap, then they pull down just like shorts. The top of the clasp has a strap so it's easy to pull back down and clip when I have finished my business. The fabric feels and looks fantastic. The upper bib portion is all mesh so I never get overheated. In fact, I don't even notice the straps while I'm riding. Overall, a great product! Thanks, Hincapie, for showing me the way of the bib.

Unusable and unreturnable

(Competitive Cyclist) July 17, 2015

I bought these shorts for an multi-day mountain bike race; I liked the buckle on the bib allowing bathroom breaks without removing jersey. They are made of high quality material, and I tried really hard to like them. The problem is the placement of the chamois- it is way too far back. When I am in the saddle, the back of the chamois is almost at my tailbone, and I have no padding under my sit bones. I bought the medium- I am an average 5'5, muscular 130 lbs, and I have never had this problem with any other shorts. The narrowest part of the chamois is the only part that touches the saddle, and the padding towards the back of the chamois does nothing but feel uncomfortable and diaper-like against the back of my butt cheeks. And the problem: returns are not allowed after you have worn the product, which is the only way to figure out how bad they fit. I tried several times to wear these thinking that maybe I needed to readjust them or maybe I was being picky, but no, they're terrible.

Comfortable but neck opening too high

(Avid Cyclist) February 6, 2015

This was my first bib and I purchased them on the basis of the reviews. I wasn't sure that the traditional bib design across the chest would be comfortable - this design seemed sensible and it was certainly comfortable once I got over the strangeness of having a strap up my middle! The only criticism is that the neck opening is quite high so you can see it if you unzip your top, and you couldn't wear it with a low neck. The clasp at the back is really handy - no problems reaching it or clasping/unclasping. The inseam was a little shorter than expected but I don't mind that. No silicone around the legs but no problem with them riding. Only criticism is a bit of gaping around the back.

  • Comfortable
  • Good Padding

Updated chamois is a disappointment

(Competitive Cyclist) January 23, 2015

The 2010 version of these bib shorts were my go-to shorts for the 2014 Ride the Rockies. (1 week of riding the Colorado Rockies averaging being out on the road for 8-12 hours per day) I have one little area on my inner leg that always becomes a problem with the tradition chamois design. The 2010 version of these shorts had a very different design without that foam pad under the sit bones and that stopped my issues on the ride and during training.
We are doing Ride the Rockies again this June and I needed a replacement short as the old pair looks likes it's got about 1500 miles on them (which they do, easily) so I ordered these.
The good: the sizing seems better than the 2010 version (I got an XS!) The Mediums fit me fine in this run. Of course the clip in the back is why I want these bibs! With 5-6 layers of clothing on during the ride over the mountain passes, I don't have the time nor energy to take it all off to use the bathroom. These unclip easily and you don't have to remove your clothing to get them back on.
The bad: Hincapie is now using the same chamois design that every. other. company seems to have. The sit bone padding is up over my bum - no where near my sit bones! - and the little knife edge is there just waiting to dig into my inner leg.

If that chamois shape doesn't bother you - these are fantastic. Especially the top part! I wish LG would do the same sort of design up on their bib shorts!

Good women's bib

(Avid Cyclist) December 3, 2012

I normally wear a women's medium, but small fit fine in this product on the bottom. I have a long torso and if they were any shorter in overall length they would be too short for me, but they just make it. Bathroom stops can be made without completely disrobing, which is the main disadvantage with normal bibs. I like having the single strap going up the middle for the upper portion rather than two shoulder straps that often don't lie well on women's anatomies. Chamois is very comfortable. Although they say inseam of 9", they only go about 7" down the leg, so they're measuring from the actual seam, as most manufucturers are now. For those of us who like longer shorts, they fall a little short in that dimension, which is why I didn't give 5 stars. Possibly too short if you're wearing leg warmers, as Colorado riders often have to do in the mountains even in the summertime.

Great bibs

(Competitive Cyclist) May 18, 2012

I like bibs, but the whole process with using the restroom gets tiring, especially in a port a potty. I was intrigued by the buckle system used in the Hincapie bibs, and it works wonderfully. You do have to have some upper body flexibility to be able to reach around and fasten/unfasten, but I had no trouble. The bibs themselves were very comfortable, although I do feel as if they run a bit big. If you are between sizes you may consider sizing down. Overall, great design and comfort.

absolutely great

(Avid Cyclist) September 20, 2011

Wore it for the first time on a 33 mile ride, and it was perfect. I also really liked the snap back that allowed me to drop the bottoms, so I could use the porta potties without worrying about straps dragging on the ground. I am a small, but with a long torso, so the length of the straps was a concern. A Team Estrogen customer service person helped me to find the best bib for my size, and she did a great job. Amazing service! They made that ride great, and I continue to enjoy wearing them. My riding buddy calls them my "Georges".

Service comments: The delivery was fast, they arrived in perfect condition. I used a lot of customer service! I am srt of small, but with a long torso. The first pair of bibs I tried had straps that were too sort, so I started asking questions. Anna got my measurements, and went and tried on several pairs for me. She told me the Hincapies were a better length, and that the smalls should fit (rather than the mediums I was tending toward) and she was right. As a result of her help, I had my bibs in time for the Venus de Miles, and the ride was pure pleasure.

Very comfortable shorts for a long torso

(Competitive Cyclist) July 19, 2011

The best shorts are those you don't even notice you are wearing. The chamois is low-profile and the fabric is comfortable against my skin. I don't have any hot spots or unnecessary bulk. I also really like that the legs stay in place without elastic or grippers. As a bonus, the fit is flattering (which I have found to be true of all Hincapie items I have owned).

The buckle on the back is easy to "find" thanks to cloth ribbons attached to each end of the buckle.

It does seem that the Y-strap has a generous amount of fabric and comes up rather high on the chest--and I have a long torso. This isn't something I notice once I'm on the bike, but it could be an issue for riders with a very short torso.
