Not recommended

(Avid Athlete) September 2, 2012

I am 5'4" and weigh around 125 lbs. I ordered both the small and the medium to try on for an upcoming bike tour and the fall/winter/spring cycling seasons.

Both pairs of pants would fit around the waist, hips and thighs. I would have kept the mediums as I could wear them with cycling shorts and fleece long underwear for really cold days.

However the legs are way way too long. I had at least 2 inches of fabric hanging below my shoes. The leg cinch would have helped with this if it was tight enough. There is no way these pants will not get caught in the chain if you have to bunch up the extra length and deal with velcro that is not tight enough.

Another drawback I noted was the short rise waist. I guess they may look cute that way but I had a gap when bending forward on the bike and I don't like cold rain down my back. Your jacket may cover this problem... but I don't want to take the chance

Overall I was very disappointed that a pant designed for cycling has such a poor design. These seemed like hiking pants for very tall people. I think there are better pants out there for the price.

Pros
  • Allows Free Movement
  • Articulated Knees
  • Lightweight
Cons
  • Poor Fit
  • Too Long
  • Very Very Long
  • Ankle Velcro Too Loose
Uses
  • Fit: Feels too big

Great Pants

(Avid Athlete) September 7, 2010

I use these pants for commuting in the rain and touring. They are lightweight, and are cut to allow movement on the bike. Most importantly, they keep me dry. I wish they had more reflective material on them. Also totally agree with the other reviewer about the velcro at the ankles. The pants feel too floppy at the ankles, even with the velcro cinched up as much as it will go.

Pros
  • Allows Free Movement
  • Comfortable
  • Lightweight
Cons
Uses
  • Wet weather
  • Fit: Feels true to size

I love riding in the rain!

(Competitive Athlete) January 12, 2010

Rain pants are a MUST if I want to enjoy riding in rainy, below 45 degree weather. These pants are trim enough so as not to get caught on my bike when I dismount or remount. They don't make much noise, and I don't feel or look like I am wearing a couple of trash bags. For rain pants, they are actually pretty cute. The Gore-tex is completely waterproof and breathable, and the fabric stretches so I can actually move my legs. The fabric also isn't too slick in the bum area so I never have the problem of sliding off a wet saddle! The only qualm I have about these pants is that the velcro on the ankles does not tighten enough. It seems as though Gore didn't pay attention to the fact that size XS pants should adjust for size XS ankles! They've never caught in my chain, but I'm careful so it doesn't happen. Gore should have made the velcro longer, or made a second strap. However, this problem can be remedied by using an ankle strap! Great pants otherwise!

  • Stylish for rain pants
  • Breathable
  • Comfortable
  • Trim fit
  • Lightweight
Cons
  • Not enough leg velcro
