Susan says: "I can't believe it's taken me this long to write a review of the Phantom Jacket! Maybe it's because I'm spending so much time RIDING in it that I haven't had time to write the review.

I love this jacket. It's one of the most versatile items in my closet. Just this weekend, for example, it was the only jacket I used on a ride that featured sun, scattered showers, morning temps in the low 30s, afternoon temps in the 60s, and everything in between.

In the coldest temps, the jacket keeps me quite warm with all the zippers closed. As it warms, I usually partially unzip the sleeves and create pit vents that allow air to flow better and keep my core at the right temps. Eventually I pull off the sleeves and stuff them into the back pockets. Having three easily-accessible, open back pockets to stuff the sleeves into, along with all the other junk I carry, is so convenient on a long ride."

NOTE: This jacket is constructed with waterproof materials.  However, the inside seams are not taped so we do not classify this jacket as fully waterproof.  For example, under steady rain conditions, wearers may find water entering the garment via the untaped seams.

Great jacket but sizing too small

(Avid Athlete) August 30, 2013

I love the jacket and the fact that it converts into a vest. I read the prior comments thankfully and ordered an XL, one size larger than normal. I probably could have ordered an XXL which is ridiculous. The sleeves are the main problems. They are way too tight and I would not considered my arms very large. You have to be careful what you wear under it with sleeves or it will just be too uncomfortable. This will limit me slightly in how I use it but I still like the jacket and chose not to return it. Just be warned - order 1-2 sizes larger than usual.

Pros
  • Stylish
  • Windproof
Cons
  • Restricts Movement
  • Sleeves Way Too Tight
Uses
  • Cycling
  • Fit: Feels too small
  • Sleeve Length: Feels too short

Great Jacket but Beware of Sizing!

(Avid Athlete) December 6, 2012

I am a triathlete and so bike through the cold eastcoast winters. I noticed alot of my teammates wearing this jacket and I had to have it!

I read all the reviews and everyone suggested sizing up. First, I got confused with the differences in models (the SO model is extra slim, for example) and the sizing itself. Was I to size up from my usual size (small)? or from the size chart for the jacket? I'm 5'2", weigh 120 lbs, wear size 4 (sometimes 2) clothes, and have a 32' chest and D cup bra (I measured my chest at 36' for this jacket). Based on my chest alone, I ordered the medium. It arrived and though I could squeeze myself into it, I felt like the back was binding and I looked like a fat sausage from the front. The arms were tight. Remembering my teammates that looked fitted in this, I realized they were all very slight body types while I am more muscular and "big-boned" than they are. So reluctantly I returned the Jacket and bought a LARGE. The large is actually too big BUT, it's comfy and I can easily fit layers under it. So the bottom line is: if you are teeny tiny, buy the size as listed in the size charts, probably a size bigger than you normally wear. If you are muscular, buy 2 sizes bigger! It's a great jacket I just wish they'd make it in realistic sizes for all.

NOTE: I marked the FIT and Length as too small/too short because the jacket I initially purchased based on their size charts was too small and too short. The size Large is a better fit.

no chest pocket

(Avid Athlete) April 20, 2012

I absolutely love this jacket.....I live in Colorado and it gets pretty windy.....this jacket was awesome to ride/run in.
I haven't got a chance to try it without the sleeves....I crashed and the paramedics cut into one of the sleeves. I may be ordering another one...but my one major complaint is the lack of a chest pocket. It was awkward to reach in back for lip balm and a chest pocket would be a great improvement.
I ordered a large, even though I usually take a medium and was glad I did. I tend to have broad shoulders and can't stand anything tight across my back. At first I thought it was restrictive, but it does stretch, and after a few wears fit fine.

Nice jacket. A great purchase over all. Performs great. 2 small negative things however: the sleeve zippers tend to unzip slightly and the inner sleeves bunch up easily. However a fantastic jacket

Great jacket; runs small

November 28, 2011

I have the bright yellow jacket and wear it all the time riding my bicycle (and sometimes when not riding). It is warm enough with a good base layer and can be worn in fairly chilly weather. On windy but warm days, I wear this jacket with the sleeves detached. Very nice all around jacket.

holy small sizing, batman!

(Casual/ Recreational) April 5, 2011

oh, fabulous yellow jacket, i so wanted to love you. but even in a size xxl (i am an admitted big-boned girl), i could not even get my arms in the sleeves or hope to get the zipper close to zipping. my husband, a skinny little dude and men's size medium, could barely get it on (and it was way short on his short-waisted torso). i am stuck in no-woman's land between this supposed xxl and the crazy huge (and boring, and baggy) styling of things labeled "plus size." can anyone please make cute women's athletic apparel for we who are not teeny pixies nor want shapeless baggy clothes? there are many of me out here, i swear. in no way is this an xxl in any normal street-clothing sizing. gorgeous jacket, but not for me. i will keep looking...

Great New Jacket

(Casual/ Recreational) March 17, 2011

Great for cold, windy rides. I wanted a truly wind proof, and stylish jacket for those Seattle area days when it looks like rain and the wind is busy blowing it in. I tried it out the other day and it worked as advertised. I'm a happy rider.

The sleeves are a little long (I'm short), but the cuffs are cut so that they roll up easily and stay put. I can't find any other downsides.

Excellent Jacket

(Competitive Athlete) September 27, 2010

This jacket has been a life-saver on many chilly rides. When everyone else was shivering or putting on layers, i grab my "magic jacket" and i'm ready to go without feeling like i can't move my arms. Layer it with some UnderArmor and you really double the warmth. The option to remove/add sleeves while you ride is perfect for those early morning or late evening rides when the temperature flucuates the most. I highly recommend this jacket for any outdoor athelete looking for an all around jacket without the bulk.

Wow!

(Competitive Athlete) October 6, 2009

A bit pricey, but a GREAT product! This jacket does everything I want it to: it's warm, windproof (literally), water resistant, breathable, flattering to my curves (but also looks great on a less-curvy body, as my daughter has proven)and lastly has the most wonderful "hand" to the fabric!! Very soft and smooth, but retains its body. The front panels are slightly thicker (windstopper panels) but there is complete freedom of movement. The sleeves are very long, but I want that! The length covers the bottom of my hands nicely if I so desire and creates a nice seal over my gloves.

I have only one very minor complaint: The sleeves are just a bit snug on my upper arms. Admittedly, I have muscular arms that are bulkier than most women's, so unless you also have that going on, you probably won't have to worry about the fit. (That is, if you have normal-sized arms, it will probably fit just fine.) Even so, the fit isn't uncomfortable or restricting; only just noticeable when I first put it on.

Other than that, this is a great jacket!
