Anna says: Lightweight, waterPROOF, windproof, breathable, simple. These are the criteria that I have been looking for in a cycling jacket. It fits in my jersey pocket and keeps me dry and warm when bad weather strikes (which happens often in Oregon!). This is the most well suited jacket to the task, I never hesitate to take it along. The Ultralight has a unique construction where the Gore-Tex membrane is directly laminated to the backer textile, which creates a nice next-to-skin feeling that I prefer over several other types of waterproof jacket backings. The subtle reflective piping sure is LOUD when light hits it and it can be seen from the back, even when I am commuting with my backpack. Gore never overlooks the details with an optional hood attachment (sold separately) and long arms finished with an adjustable cuff to fit nicely over whichever glove I am wearing for the day. With proper care, this jacket should last me years!

Versatile lightweight jacket

(Avid Athlete) February 17, 2014

I bought this jacket hoping it would be a good rain jacket for warmish temps (above 60 degrees). I haven't had a chance to test it out under those conditions yet. But I have found it to be very comfortable with one or two layers underneath for long bike rides on 40-50 degree days. It blocks the wind well and is breathable. The back pocket comes in handy and I like the reflective trim. I think it runs a bit large -- according to the size chart I should wear a size large, but the medium fits me perfectly.

Feels true to size

(Casual/ Recreational) November 6, 2013

I am 5' 5" and 124 Lbs. I normally get a size Small but after reading the other reviews I got the Medium. The jacket feels roomy and the sleeves are long enough to cover my hands. The Small probably would have been fine. I am not going to exchange it though, mostly because with my luck the Small would be too tight, and because the sleeves have an adjustable velcro cuff. As it is, the jacket is not so large as to be sloppy. It is roomy enough to allow for the option of wearing something a little bit heavy underneath. I got the rich red because on a cloudy rainy day a bright color is good for safety. It is a lovely deep red, not orange. This jacket is light weight and unlined. I got it mainly for rainy warm weather.

Great Jacket BUT Beware Sizing

(Competitive Athlete) October 26, 2012

In my opinion Gore have always produced the most breathable, waterproof materials and this jacket is no exception. It is lightweight, well made and packable, although it will only JUST fit in the back pocket of a cycling jersey, but I don't believe there are any other products that are as waterproof and breathable that would pack any smaller. It has a stylish cut with a handy zipped back pocket but no other unnecessary bits and pieces.

However, a word of warning! Gore sizing is hopeless and bears no resemblance to other top brands like Pearl Izumi and Sugoi, for which I take an L size. For this jacket, an XL is barely large enough. It suits me for racing, but it is too tight for me to wear a warm winter jersey under it. Renata has corrected much of the Gore sizing misinformation on the TE website but you need to ignore Gore sizing mentioned elsewhere and if you are in any doubt, DEFINITELY choose a larger size.

Pros
  • Stylish
  • Lightweight
  • Waterproof
  • Windproof
  • Breathable
Cons
  • Poor sizing
Uses
  • Wet Weather
  • Cycling
  • Fit: Feels too small
  • Sleeve Length: Feels true to length

Worth it!

(Casual/ Recreational) August 10, 2012

Bought this is preparation for an upcoming European bike tour that starts in London (where it's been raining constantly all summer). The day after it arrived I took it out for a test ride in a downpour. After 45 minutes riding, my shoes were full of water but my upper body was completely dry. The jacket moves well, is breathable, and stylish too. Apparently one can buy a hood separately (though I did not see it on the TE site), but I found it wasn't necessary - somehow the rain doesn't make it's way down your neck if the collar is zipped all the way up. So in the end, expensive but totally worth it! Runs small - check the size chart; I usually take a medium jersey but needed a large in this jacket. TE service was great as always!

No size difference between XL/XXL

I was needing a little more room, but the only difference seemed to be in the length of the arms. Chest no difference.
