I'm sold on bib shorts!

(Avid Cyclist) January 27, 2012

Been curious about Bibs for many years, tried my husband's once and loved the feel but not the suspenders or undressing completely to use the WC! I have always been a fan of Etxeondo and since their bibs have a front buckle, I knew these were the ones to try. I was so-o-o right. Fabric is soft, lightweight and supportive. Chamois is extremely comfortable. Strap with front buckle makes WC stops really easy. I also don't have any issues if I twist the straps when re-buckling. I get a smooth line, no muffin top, and the fabric that connects to the buckle/straps is very supportive. I always feel stronger during and after long rides and the bibs are actually cooler than plain shorts. And I know about heat; Southern Arizona riders get temps in the 80-100s from April-November. I love these bibs so much I bought the Etxeondo "Ella" bibs (longer and heavier fabric, great with leg or knee warmers in cold weather)
I'm sold, my poor shorts don't see the light of day very often.

Good Bib - But Not Perfect

(Avid Cyclist) September 1, 2011

Fabric & chamois are comfortable - there's no pinching anywhere. I did get a size larger than normal and glad I did. The legs of the shorts do ride up (maybe because I've got big quads) but they don't become indecently short. As another reviewer remarked, the front clip on the straps does not really resolve the problem of using the john w/o removing one's jersey - easy enough reach under your jersey, unclip the strap & pull it over your head - but to get back in you need to be really flexible to hold one end of the strap behind your back and with your other hand reach over your shoulder and under your jersey to grab the strap, pull it back over your head & get it reattached.

Pros
  • No Pinching At The Waist
Cons
Uses
  • Long Rides

Good but not Great

(Avid Cyclist) August 25, 2011

First the positives. I love the look of these, the length is perfect, not too long and not too short, it hits right at mid-thigh (I'm 5'6"), the fabric on the lower half is gorgeous and feels amazing and supportive.

Drawbacks: I'm not sure I understand the front-clip, the bib part is stretchy enough that you can pull these off the shoulders without having to undo the clip and it isn't like the front clip makes bathroom breaks any easier. Also the front bib-webbing comes up quite high on my chest, just below my collarbone, which means it negates the effect of unzipping my jersey to get some cool air. Also, I find on longer rides, the chamois is too uncomfortable and chafes and rubs quite a bit. This was a bit heartbreaking as I could overlook the other issues. These will be a "short-ride" pair of shorts for me- the search for the perfect bibs continues!

Pros
  • Durable
  • Breathable
  • Fabric
Cons
  • Chafes
Uses
  • Road Biking
  • Mountain Biking
  • Warm Weather
  • Commuting
  • Waist: Feels true to size
  • Length: Feels true to length

Sbaren Bib short

(Avid Cyclist) December 16, 2010

This was my first pair of bib shorts and they're great! The pair I got was a surprise because it had the front buckle closure I had seen on another pair of exte ondo bibs but could not find in my size. I decided I'd just go ahead and try a pair of exte ondo anyway and was delighted when it turned out to be the one I wanted in the first place.

My bike coach suggested I try bib shorts because I was complaining about having to order bike shorts in a larger size because of big thighs and a smaller waist. Meant that I am always contending with slippage. No such problem with the bib.

Pros
  • Comfortable
  • Good Fit
  • Breathable
  • Good Padding
Cons
Uses
  • Waist: Feels true to size
  • Length: Feels true to length

Best bib-short I own

(Avid Cyclist) December 11, 2010

I own two other pairs of bib-shorts - a Campag pair (L)- (fit well) and a Giordana pair L (red-forma - current & probably a bit small). I also own a Giordana pair of bib-tights XL - fairly good fit.I bought the XL in these because I was on the small end of the XL size but I'd read reviews saying "size-up" in Exteondo gear. They fit perfectly. I love the strap going up the front because I often get a bit chilled in the solar-plexus area. I wear a 'C' cup in a bra and it's just fine! I'm small in the hips but I'm a bit big in the waist. If I had a smaller waist I could have probably bought the Large but these shorts are perfect for me. The chamois is very comfy. I raced in them today and they were great. The shorts are quite light. I'd love another pair. I like them more than my Giordana's but I will probably race in the Giordana's on a hotter day as there is even less of them.
