Sandy says: "I used to be a Skin Cooler enthusiast, but after a summer of racing and training with Cool Wings, I'm a full-fledged evangelist. When I use my Wings, I'm more comfortable and I can ride harder and longer. The Skin Cooler fabric is engineered to reflect sunlight, so I don't heat up as much. I can also wet them down to increase evaporative cooling."

Love the Cool Wings!

(Avid Cyclist) August 19, 2014

Cool Wings are great! They really do wick away moisture in a way different than just evaporation from your skin. Fabulous for hot days when you'd rather not wilt from the heat. Also awesome sun protection. The one problem is they are cut a bit skimpily under the arms, so no matter what sleeveless top I wear, there is some exposed skin between the bottom of the Cool Wings and the top of the armhole. But they work fine with short sleeved tops. This was a gift from a biking friend, just right for summer riding.

I am happy with my purchase

(Avid Cyclist) August 14, 2014

I was hoping to use the cool wings to reduce impact from sun, but the instructions suggest that you use sun protection under the sleeves. I have stopped using the cool wings when riding my TT bike as the cool wings pick up the dark colour from the aero bars and I haven't been able to keep them nice and white. They are very easy to hand wash and dry very quickly.

Pros
  • Comfortable
  • Dry Easily
  • Wicking
Cons
  • Difficult To Keep Clean
  • Doesn't Wash Well
  • Poor Uv Protection

Love my Cool Wings!

(Avid Cyclist) July 22, 2014

These Cool Wings keep me so much cooler in the hot blazing sun! Wicking off the perspiration and turning it into an "air conditioner" for my body!
In extreme heat, I pour water over my arms to increase the coolness! I'm fair skinned so I'm also protected from the burning rays of the sun. I wear sun screen under also.
Wish I would have bought a size up they don't cover all of the shoulders when I wear a sleeveless or racer back top.

Works well

(Avid Cyclist) July 9, 2014

I like using this for cycling/running workouts. I don't have to worry about sunscreen (but I don't burn easy generally). I tend to overheat on the run and this has helped tremendously by wetting down the sleeves as needed.

The only con is that the back leaves some skin exposed when I wear my cami style tank tops. that is why I gave 4 stars.

  • Should Have Longer Back

My new favorite summer running wear

(Avid Cyclist) June 25, 2013

These sleeves are great for any sport in the hot sun. It blocks the sunlight really well and stays cool, especially when dampened with a little water. I've even used them for jellyfish protection when swimming in the ocean. This is a great product for triathletes.

Great item for hot exposed rides

(Competitive Cyclist) March 10, 2013

These have saved me on multiple long rides in the sun and in triathlons. The work well for sun protection and also cool very effectively if you put water on them. In triathlons, I used sponges to soak them down and the saved me in races were the temps got up above 100 degrees. My only complaint is that they are a little fragile so I've managed to wreck several pairs mountain biking. But I keep buying more cuz I love em.

Def a fan

(Avid Cyclist) February 21, 2013

Really like wearing these on my bike to prevent sunburn. They can get a little hot but easy to take off and tie around your waist. Haven't worn them for running yet. When you wet them they become cool for a while but they do evaporate quickly and i don't want to waste my water on long rides. Will get another pair when they need replacing.

Good for sun screen, so so on cooling

(Avid Cyclist) August 4, 2012

I bought this product after getting sun poisoning on RAGBRAI 2011. I used it on RAGBRAI 2012 which was hotter and had more intense sun. The wings need to be wet in order to give any cooling effect. While sweat should do the trick, I had to use my water bottle to keep it damp enough. When the wings are dry, I felt hotter than without the wings. I do think the added spf with the wings is a big help on long rides with a lot of sun exposure.

Cool and comfy

(Avid Cyclist) June 21, 2012

I use my cool wings with sleeveless and halter-style bike tops to shield my arms from the hot Hawaiian sun while on longer bike rides. It's lightweight fabric feels almost like a second skin, and even if it runs a tad small (mostly in the length - could use an extra inch to cover exposed skin on my back) does not cut into the skin.

True to size; good sleeve alternative

(Avid Cyclist) February 18, 2012

I purchased the wings as a sun protection option for a 70.3 (half-iron distance) triathlon - I wasn't confirdent my sunscreen wuld stil be effective throught the ride and run. They were very good at this task, and I was very glad of the shoulder and upper arm coverage (a real benefit of the 'wing' design, compared to the more common sun-protection sleeves). I had viewed the cooling as a secondary function, but when damp they did this well enough to make the day a bit more comfortable.
As other commenters have noted, the shrug's fit leaves some gaps around the arms, but I found these minor, compared to the areas usually left exposed by a tri-suit.
Contrary to the experience of an earlier reviewer, I found the sizing to be true to size - I ordered a medium, which is what I take generally for a top, and found the fit good (if anything, a smidge on the large size).

pretty good for sun protection

(Avid Cyclist) July 8, 2011

I bought this to help with sun protection on my races that are longer distance to put over my tri top. It covers most of my shoulders except a small sliver on the back. It is wicking which helps keep me cool. My only wish is that it was a bit longer in the back.Overall a good product.

Cools and protects from sun

(Avid Cyclist) June 14, 2011

I purchased these wings mainly for sun protection, and got the bonus of staying cool added to it. I always put them on wet and during my ride if they dry out, I just squeeze more water on them from my extra water bottle for very cool comfort. Great product!

Runs Small

(Avid Cyclist) May 14, 2011

Products runs a bit small. I ordered a XS, S and Medium and all had to be returned. Normally the smalls on balero's run a bit big on me but the small on these fit perfect except the front didn't cover enough on my sleeveless jersey and the back side was a little short. The medium was loose but still didn't cover (back was still short). Unless your sleeveless jersey doesn't have a halter type or similar cut back you should be fine. If it was a little longer and wider it would have been perfect.

Pretty Nice

(Casual/ Recreational) March 1, 2011

I purchased this for sunscreen purposes because I like sleeveless jerseys, but need more sun protection for longer rides. I sized up one size to get a little more coverage along the front/armpit area. The medium fit well, but sometimes left a little gap between the front of the shrug and the edge of the jersey armhole. The large is only a little loose and covered the underarm area a little better. So far I haven't ridden in really hot weather, so I'm not sure how great the "cooling effect" will be.
